S.Coups Breaks Down the Emotional Weight of Leading SEVENTEEN

The pair opened up about a wide range of topics, with S.Coups’s role as the leader of SEVENTEEN taking center stage. He is widely recognized by fans and peers alike as a profoundly charismatic and effective leader, but he revealed that this wasn't always the case. He shared a surprising admission about his initial awkwardness.

"I just thought that I needed someone to scold the kids. At the company, I didn't want to scold them and needed someone who could lead them. That's why I was awkward with the members," revealed S.Coups.

Mingyu added depth to this, explaining how the leader's role evolved, "When we first debuted, we all worked hard and worked together, so I wondered what role a leader had. As time passed and the members developed their own egos, I started to feel the weight of responsibility."

Despite the challenges, S.Coups finds an invaluable partner in Mingyu, who not only understands his thoughts but can effectively communicate and execute them, acting as a crucial bridge between the leader and the rest of the team.

"It's Mingyu. He organizes what I want to say well and tells it," S.Coups claimed.

Mingy Initially Wanted a Solo Track Over a Subunit with S.Coups

The formation of their new subunit, ‘S.Coups X Mingyu’, came with its own share of hilarious and honest revelations. While their musical synergy is undeniable, Mingyu confessed that his first choice wasn't a duo.

"At first, he wasn't very happy about doing it with me. He said he wanted to do it alone" S.Coups spilled the beans, revealing.

Mingyu didn't deny it, instead explaining his initially selfish perspective with comedic self-awareness.

"There were always 13 of us on stage, so I thought, 'Now I get to show off a little,' but I ended up doing it with my hyung," replied Mingyu.

He even went so far as to label himself a "selfish guy."

However, their shared taste in music ultimately became the foundation for their collaboration. Mingyu admitted,

"Musically, the two of us fit well together. We've always liked similar music," Mingyu noted.

The project came together when Mingyu played the music he had originally intended for a solo release for S.Coups, who immediately responded with enthusiasm, "It's good, right?" This sealed the deal, leading to the creation of their joint mini-album 'HYPE VIBES', a testament to how their artistic alignment overcame initial solo ambitions.

So Mingyu initially didn’t want the subunit? I knew there was more behind the scenes! But they made it work, typical idol diplomacy. Still, curious about the real tea🤔

Unnie, I’m also so curious about the behind-the-scenes tea! :joy: But knowing our boys, it probably ended with a deep talk and lots of food. They’re family, after all! :gem_stone::sparkles:

Their honesty on Salon Drip 2 felt so refreshing. It’s rare idols openly admit awkward starts or selfish thoughts, but that’s why we love SEVENTEEN’s authenticity.

It really shows how raw and genuine their journey is, proving that K-pop stories can reflect real struggles and growth.

The way Mingyu called himself “selfish” and still ended up creating a whole mini album with his hyung is peak SEVENTEEN humor and honesty

Right? Stories like this remind us idols are real people chasing dreams while carrying so much pressure, and that’s what makes it hit so deeply🥹

Yeah, he first wanted to go solo but ended up teaming with S.Coups, and it turned into something even better than expected.
